Economic sentiment improves in EU and euro area

After four months of decline the economic sentiment improved in October. According to the ‘economic sentiment indicator' (ESI), the sentiment improved in the EU (with 0,5 points to 104) as well as the euro zone (with 0,8 points to 100,7). A score above 100 points indicates a sentiment better than the long-term average. Of the big economies in the euro area only in Spain did the sentiment decline (with -0,7 points) whilst the sentiment improved in Germany (+o,6), France (+1,1), Italy (+0,5) and The Netherlands (with 2,1 points). The sentiment was more positive mainly in retail trade, services and construction, whilst the improvement in Industry was smaller. The sentiment amongst consumers improved slightly.
